Come On, Get Happy (Part 2)

Angelenos are notoriously insatiable.  Especially right around 5pm, which is why we’re offering up a part 2 of our hunt for the most haute happy hours LA has to offer.  Here’s what we hid from you and are now (reluctantly) revealing:

If you’re looking for a reason to start drinking and eating in West Hollywood at 5pm (shouldn’t be too difficult), there are alluring happy hours at Michael Mina’s XIV and at Comme Ca.  Everyone’s favorite local jolt of life in the French court, XIV offers $6 plates including lobster corn dogs and black truffle popcorn alongside their five most popular drinks at only $8.  Only in LA can you get a pretty sweet deal on 17th century France.

Speaking of France on the cheap – Comme Ca’s happy hour is tres, tres joyeux.  At $2 a pop, those oysters will slide right down especially when accompanied by other hors d’oeuvres for $7 and particularly seductive cocktails also for $7.  They’re confident you’ll leave not just happier, but a little more stimulated.

Heading west, Bodega Wine Bar in Santa Monica is well aware of the old adage that variety is the spice of life.  Keeping things interesting, they offer any bottle of wine for $20 on Tuesday evenings, Wednesdays are “carafe night” with regular carafes cashing in at $15 and premiums at a mere $21, while Sunday night (aka “service industry night”) offers up happy hour prices for the entire evening.  And you thought there weren’t enough reasons to go west of the 405.

Not that you’re desperate to surround yourself with books so soon after staring blankly at expense reports, but you won’t be quizzed here.  Instead, at downtown’s Library Bar you’ll be served $4 beers, $5 cocktails, and the kind of food that washes it all down best including grilled cheese sandwiches and fries.  It’s also the only library that encourages yelling at the TV when the game is on.

In case you need to perk up in Los Feliz, Umami Burger’s new outpost in the east offers their happy hour from 3 – 7pm.  You’re looking at their Smashburger for $5 and $4 drafts.  Talk about making you happy.
