Rock Fashion Week kicked off Wednesday evening in what I can accurately sum up as a healthy mix of flashbulbs, Stoli, and of course, pink.
Upon arrival, my equally-blonde counterpart and I were whisked away to a couch with endless camera flashes and the guest star of the evening, Dennis Rodman. Then came a few visits to the complimentary bar, courtesy of Stolichnaya Vodka, with indulgent fashion-driven drinks like The Stiletto and The Fashionista.
Models, media, and philanthropists alike were abuzz at Eden Roc on Miami Beach for the Pink Dress Collection (which benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation), which paraded down the center-of-the-pool runway consisting of rosy donations from girlie labels like Juicy Couture, Lilly Pulitzer, Nicole Miller; and my personal favorite, Betsey Johnson, among others.
As the music began, (high-pop 80s melodies from the likes of Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson), models began to filter down the runway bedecked in pink flowers, ruffles, and heaps of satin & tulle. There were floor length bohemian style gowns, as well as body-hugging minis on models from the DecoModels Agency; and a spattering of local faces as well—Shireen Sandoval from Deco Drive, Lisette Gonzalez from CBS, and Roxanne Vargas from NBC 6, as well as singer/songwriter Jamie Jo Harris.
Then came the finale, a.k.a. Dennis Rodman, in head-to-toe pink pants, sparkles, and wrapped in nylon tutu-esque material. The show was simultaneously inspiring and whimsical, and was undoubtedly a perfect start to kick off what the rest of the week has in store.
