Residential Cruise Line offers three types of ownership: full ownership, fractional one-month ownership, and fractional two-week ownership.

The term “armchair traveler” will take on an entirely new meaning as you circle the world from the lavish comfort of your own living room, made possible by Residential Cruise Line. The luxury company is preparing to offer an amazing opportunity to own property on the residential luxury condo cruise ship, aptly dubbed the Magellan. The 860-foot beauty is the largest residential cruiser in history, and affords its residents a previously unheard level of seagoing luxury.

The liner is set to circumnavigate the globe every two years with stops in more than 300 ports in 150 countries. Residents will have the opportunity to explore a spectacular range of locations from Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Istanbul, Stockholm, New York, and Miami, to Rio de Janeiro, Acapulco, Vancouver, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Sydney, Bali, Honolulu, and Alexandria. Future itineraries are projected, and a number of exotic stops will be added to Magellan’s already exotic tour schedule.

Aboard the ship, travelers will be pleased to find that no indulgence has been overlooked. Housed on 15 decks, the Magellan’s world-class amenities include a tennis court, retractable marina, putting green and two golf simulators, an observatory, four fine-dining restaurants serving an array of cuisines, an all-weather heliport, spa, casino, gourmet marketplace, microbrewery, 430-seat Broadway-style theater, two pools, and a greenhouse. The $750 million ship will be comprised of 210 units of various levels of extravagance. The residences all feature fine wood cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, granite surfaces, marble baths, china, crystal, and spectacular ocean views.

In addition to world-class opulence, the Magellan represents an interesting and smart departure from traditional rental cruises. The condo aspect of the ship provides the ability to purchase a floating home. Residential Cruise Line offers three types of ownership: full ownership, fractional one-month ownership, and fractional two-week ownership. One-month fractional ownership packages start at about $300,000, and full ownership packages begin at $3.66 million. The Magellan’s magnificence aside, the fractional owner benefits differ slightly from more traditional renters in that the residence can be sublet or used by friends and family.

The ship has already attracted the attention of many notables, including future Magellan resident, former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who reported, “In 1969, Neil Armstrong and I were the first two men to walk on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission. I have always been drawn to exploration, seeking out new experiences and constantly pushing new frontiers. My wife Lois and I look forward to exploring the world on the Magellan.”

Clearly, the Magellan offers those with a love for luxury adventure an amazing chance to explore the vastness of the world’s oceans while enjoying the comforts of their own personal home on the sea. The concept for this large luxury residential cruise ship was developed by Randall Jackson, chief executive officer of Residential Cruise Line, Ltd., and designed by the Norwegian design firm Petter Yran and Bjørn Storbraaten Architects. The ship will be built by Aker Yards at its shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. It is anticipated that the Magellan will be completed by late 2010. All aboard!
