New Yorkers check out Clive Christian No. 1 perfume

At $865 for 10 mL, Clive Christian’s No. 1 perfume is officially the world’s most expensive. And, while several celebrities, including David and Victoria Beckham, wouldn’t spray themselves with any other perfume, the Daily Intelligencer decided to find out what midtown residents thought of the pricey perfume.
The consensus? Well … there wasn’t one. Asking six different holiday shoppers, ranging in age from 14 to “age not disclosed”, the Daily Intelligencer found that perfume is truly in the eye, er, nose, of the beholder.
The biggest insult the scent received? “It smells like something you would buy at CVS.” These comments came courtesy of a 36-year-old named Pierre.
The biggest compliment? “That’s a bargain! You smell great!”, which came courtesy of Kevin, who clearly wouldn’t mind spending four figures if it meant smelling good.
Clive Christian No. 1 is certainly meant for those with a few dollars to burn, and while we can’t tell exactly what your reaction will be, our best advice to the big-pocketed Haute Blog reader is there’s only one way to find out for yourself.
