Haute Spots Cape Cod: Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club

Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club is truly one of the most spectacular properties on Cape Cod. Known for its beautiful Tudor style, lush landscaping and oceanfront sunsets, the resort was originally constructed in 1890 as a private home. It later burned down and was rebuilt in 1910, eventually opening in 1986 as a resort property. Today, Ocean Edge is owned by Corcoran Jennison.

Located less than a two-hour drive from Boston on the bay side (inside elbow) of Cape Cod, the 429-acre resort has a front row view to some of the most breathtaking sunsets you will witness this summer.

The resort is divided into two properties – The Mansion at Ocean Edge and the one-bedroom condo style accommodations at The Villages at Ocean Edge located just a short drive from the Mansion. The property is an ideal family getaway as it features Har-Tru tennis courts, kayaks, paddle boards along with a dock to a private pond near The Villages. Mansion guests have access to a private beach located just steps from the main lodge.

We recently stayed in one of the Presidential Collection Villas, a two-bedroom one level unit that featured two full bathrooms (one shower and one with a tub), full kitchen and washer/dryer. There are four skylights that line the living room’s soaring cathedral ceilings and a fireplace (that we were sad to see was decorative only). We relaxed with a cup of coffee and breakfast on the deck that had seating for four guests off the living room. There is another set of sliders off the living room that open the bright room up even more to let more sun shine in. The full appliance kitchen has everything you need for a weekend getaway or a week long stay, including a cooktop unit, full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, even a wine cooler.

When it comes to dinner, be sure to request a seat on the outdoor patio for al fresco dining at Ocean Terrace, and order up a dozen local Brewster oysters to complement a cup of clam chowder filled with chunks of crisp bacon, fresh clams and tender potatoes. The halibut and tenderloin were standout entrees and their lobster dish is one of their signatures.

For more casual fare, head to Bayzo’s Pub located in the Mansion where the menu here includes enormous Cape Cod mussels swimming in a delicious broth with chunks of chorizo served with a side of grilled bread. We recommend the crunchy fried cod tacos and margherita pizza topped with cherry tomatoes. The lobster roll here is not your traditional roll filled with diced lobster meat instead of chunks served with a side of golden fries. Cape Cod Beer has created a specialty brew designed for the resort called Bayzo’s Brew.

After dining here, you will want to walk off some of those extra calories. Book a round of golf on the Nicklaus designed course (the only one on Cape Cod) or head over to one of the heated indoor or outdoor pools for some laps.
