Christian Louboutin, master of the red-sole, has created an equally glamorous accessory to his high-end footwear: “wearable art”—a.k.a. lipsticks.
The French footwear master has created a line of 36 shades in three different textures—Silky Satin, Velvet Matte and Sheer Voile—inspired by the Egyptian queen Nefertiti; each shade is meant to provide the perfect accompaniment to his signature stilettos and handbags. T
At $90 apiece, it’s unsurprising that the lippies are more than mere makeup. The bullet-like tubes are designed in stunning black and gold vials and topped with crowns that contain a loop in case you want to add a chain and turn each into a necklace.
There are 20 pieces in the Silky Satin collection, which offers a medium-to-full-coverage lip color with a satin finish and hint of shine. Velvet Matte features nine colors, is highly pigmented, and has a soft, matte finish. Sheer Voile also comes in nine shades, with a sheer finish for a veil of color with “luminous shine.” Each collection contains a signature “Rouge Louboutin” shade as one of its offerings (those in the black lacquer case) to easily identify the quintessential Louboutin red.
Try not to go crazy playing the waiting game—these gorgeous ‘objet’s d’art’ won’t be available until the fall. You’ll find them this September at Saks.
In the meantime, you might want to check out the designer’s other foray into beauty, Christian Louboutin Nail Colour. The nail care line also pays homage to his shoes in that the beautifully weighted, molded-glass bottle (inspired by the classical architecture of 18th century Europe) is designed to mimic his signature towering Ballerina Ultima heel. In addition to Rouge Louboutin, his collections include “The Pops”—literal pops of jewel-like color—”The Noirs,” The Nudes” and “Scarabée,” two limited-edition shades with a colorful, iridescent finish.
