With more than 700 transactions and 35 years across Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and greater Los Angeles, Coldwell Banker's Michael Collins built a practice on candor, discretion and relationships that outlast escrow.

Article

Michael Collins has spent more than 35 years selling residential real estate throughout Los Angeles, completing more than 700 transactions and ranking among Coldwell Banker's Top 100 agents in California. Raised in Beverly Hills and a graduate of Beverly Hills High School, Collins began his career in entertainment management and public relations before moving into real estate. That background taught him discretion, how to work with different personalities, and how to remain calm when the stakes are high. Those skills have remained central to his real estate career. Today, Collins is based at Coldwell Banker Realty in Beverly Hills, but his business extends throughout Los Angeles. Over the course of his career, he has represented everything from condominiums and first homes to architectural properties, investment properties and multimillion-dollar estates. A Business Built on Relationships Collins' clientele has included actors, producers, directors, attorneys, business managers, corporate executives and generations of Los Angeles families. Much of his business comes from repeat clients and referrals, including people he has represented through several purchases and sales over many years. His philosophy is straightforward: tell clients the truth, particularly when it comes to pricing, timing and negotiation. "Clients don't need me to tell them what they want to hear. They need me to tell them what I think is actually happening." That direct approach, combined with the discretion learned during his entertainment career, has helped Collins build relationships that often extend well beyond a single transaction. From Private Clients to Major Institutions A significant part of Collins' practice is work that receives very little publicity. Over the years, he has handled real estate for institutional and trust clients including Cedars-Sinai, City National Bank and Northern Trust, as well as attorneys, business managers and other fiduciaries responsible for property on behalf of their clients. These transactions can involve multiple decision-makers, family considerations and fiduciary responsibilities. Collins' experience navigating those situations has become an important part of his practice and a continuing source of referrals. From Condominiums to Estates Across Los Angeles While Collins' roots are firmly in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, his business has never been limited to one neighborhood or one price point. He has represented buyers and sellers throughout Los Angeles , including Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Bel Air, Brentwood, Holmby Hills, Hancock Park, Hollywood Hills, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Venice, Silver Lake and the San Fernando Valley. The properties are equally varied: condominiums, single-family homes, investment properties, trust and estate sales, architectural homes and major luxury estates. For Collins, the value of an experienced agent isn't determined by the price of the property. Whether someone is buying a condominium or selling a multimillion-dollar estate, the fundamentals are the same: understand the market, negotiate well, anticipate problems and protect the client's interests. After more than three decades in the business, Collins has also watched technology fundamentally change real estate. Buyers and sellers have access to more information than ever, but he believes information and judgment are two very different things. Data can show what a property sold for. Experience helps explain why. That distinction becomes particularly important when the market is changing, a property is difficult to value or a negotiation becomes complicated. After more than 700 transactions across Los Angeles, Collins' approach remains simple: know the market, tell clients the truth, protect their interests and remember that the relationship matters long after escrow closes.
