Shannon McLin, B.C.S. founded Florida Appeals in 2019 after founding The Carlyle Appellate Law Firm in 1997 and practicing there for over 20 years. While Florida Appeals has offices in Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, and The Villages, remote video technology enables the firm to advise lawyers and their clients cost-effectively across Florida—from Pensacola to the Florida Keys. Florida Appeals is an experienced team of appellate professionals including former trial and appellate judges and former law clerks.
A significant part of Florida Appeals’ work takes place in trial courts, where its appellate lawyers often serve as additional counsel of record for trial support purposes. When engaged to join a trial team, the firm assists lead counsel with strategic analysis, legal research, and briefing, with a focus on preserving error and positioning cases for appellate review. Members also testify as experts on appellate issues and attorney’s fees.
McLin is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in appellate practice and is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. She has consistently been named by Florida Trend as a Florida Legal Elite in Appellate Practice and as a Florida Super Lawyer. She has also been recognized as one of Florida's Top 50 Women Lawyers. Since 1993, McLin has been a Charter Member of the Appellate Practice Section where she served on the Executive Council and as the section delegate to the Council of Sections. She also served on The Florida Bar's Appellate Court Rules Committee and the Appellate Court Certification Committee where she held the positions of Vice-Chair and Chair respectively.
In addition to her service to the appellate bar, McLin is active in the family law arena. She currently serves on the Marital and Family Law Section’s Executive Council And is immediate past chair of the Section's Appellate Practice Committee. She has also served as the guest editor of the Commentator.
McLin and the Florida Appeals team look forward to assisting trial lawyers and their clients throughout Florida in the trial and appellate courts.
