Instagram has played a large role in the cosmetic industry. For quite some time, Generation Z or \u2018younger adults\u2019 have been directly influenced by celebrities and influencers who promote cosmetic surgeries. Lip fillers<\/strong><\/a>, anti-wrinkle injections, you name it. The cosmetic industry has seen a large influx of younger people wanting and receiving treatments that replicate the faces of Instagram.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, many people who undergo cosmetic treatments have a poor experience, leaving their faces scarred permanently. Prominent figures in the social media world have come forward discussing the risks that come with the two nonsurgical procedures (botox<\/a> <\/strong>and fillers) urging for all to stay educated of the complications.<\/span><\/p>\n

As of October 1st, the United Kingdom has banned anti-wrinkle and filler injections for teens under the age of 18.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to The Daily Mail and The Sun, 41,000 injectable procedures were administered on patients under the age of 18 in the U.K. last year. This raised major concerns that there was simply not enough regulation on the non-surgical cosmetic industry.<\/p>\n

Exceptions are in place for doctors who may need to use injectables for medical reasons, however, the majority of consumers use these treatments for cosmetic purposes. In compilation with the law, doctors will be required to receive age verification prior to treatment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhenever a patient decides to have a cosmetic procedure it is important for me to consult, educate and assess. Not everyone is right for every procedure. The measures passed in the UK were put in place to protect people and I respect that but I also believe that there are young people who with their parent\u2019s consent and our expertise are ready for these types of services,\u201d said Dr. Busso.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This change is to protect younger people\u2019s risk of potential health issues from botox and fillers. Currently, the United States requires parental consent if you are a patient<\/a> <\/strong>under age 18. There is no known discussion of the UK's strong bans being implemented in the U.S.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
