HB: How do clear aligners work?<\/h3>\n

Clear aligners are made of a strong transparent plastic material and are custom-made to fit a particular patient\u2019s mouth. They help guide teeth into their correct position by using gradual force. It is a series of aligners; each aligner is worn from 7-14 days before progressing to the next one, and each one will slowly move the teeth into the proper position.<\/p>\n

HB: What are the advantages of clear aligners compared to braces?<\/h3>\n

Traditional braces are made of metal and cannot be removed. Aligners are clear, and they are removable. Not only does that offer esthetic benefits to patients, but also makes eating much more enjoyable. Clear aligners are worn 22 hours a day, but they are removed in order to eat, while traditional braces cannot be removed in order to eat, so food tends to get stuck around the wires and makes brushing and flossing more difficult.<\/p>\n

The length of the time of treatment depends on the severity of the crowding or spacing of the teeth. You can expect clear aligner treatment to last approximately the same amount of time as regular braces, or slightly less. Minor corrective treatment can take as little as 4-6 months, while more complex treatment may take up to 2 years.<\/p>\n

HB: Who is a good candidate?<\/h3>\n

Clear aligner therapy is an option for almost all patients who are looking to straighten their smiles. Some more complex treatments may require traditional braces instead, but most results are now able to be achieved using clear aligners. If you have restorations such as implants or dental bridges, you may not be a candidate for clear aligners or braces or treatment may need to be modified slightly.
