There is sometimes a negative connotation that comes with male plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures. But men are just as great candidates as women, and can and should fix the things that may make them self-conscience. We sat down with some of our top Haute Beauty experts to talk about rejuvenation trends for men, from hair restoration to acne and even plastic surgery. Here's what you need to know.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Eyelid Surgery for Men<\/h3>\n

Most men are bothered by the extra skin hanging over the eyelashes, which can make them appear tired and lacking energy. This is corrected with upper eyelid surgery, AKA a blepharoplasty. The technique differs for men vs. women. It is important not to feminize the eyes, but rather re-create the natural youthful look of a male eye<\/p>\n

Rhinoplasties for Men<\/h3>\n

Nose surgery, or Rhinoplasty, is one of the most common types of plastic surgery among men. A Rhinoplasty can be performed to address a functional issue or for cosmetic reasons. For a functional issue, a rhinoplasty can correct breathing problems or structural defects that can cause discomfort or health issues. However, the majority of rhinoplasties performed are for cosmetic reasons such as changing the size of the nose, the width of the bridge or a bump on the bridge, and the shape and size of nostrils<\/p>\n

The typical male patient does not want it to be obvious that they had something done, especially on their face. They are looking to achieve a result that complements their existing facial features and looks natural.<\/p>\n

Men are usually looking for something different than women when they are considering a rhinoplasty - men and women have different facial structures. Plastic surgery is not a \u201cone size fits all\u201d, and men want to make sure that their results look masculine and blend well with their facial structure. They want to achieve a strong but refined masculine nose and to improve the form and function as well.<\/p>\n

In order to bring balance and symmetry to frame a man\u2019s face, natural-looking results are paramount. The nose is at the focal point and at the center of the face, so the results of the rhinoplasty need to be as unique to the patient as are their fingerprints. You want the results of the rhinoplasty to appear like you were born that way.<\/p>\n

Hair Loss in Men<\/h3>\n

Hair loss in women is primarily hormonally mediated and while hair loss in men is also mediated by hormones, it\u2019s a little different. In men, this is genetically predetermined mostly and is driven by dihydrotestosterone. Whereas in women, hair loss and hair thinning are most frequently found postmenopausal, and can\u2019t have a serious sensitivity as well to cortisol or stress. This is a generalization and does not account for thyroid issues, diet, etc. Which also plays a large part in the health of your hair.<\/p>\n

I find in my practice most young men are actually going for transplants but it depends on the type of guy. Newer techniques allow us to create a very natural look, with very low downtime, that allow patients to get back to the regular activities rather quickly. However, I like to joke that you have to play defense if you\u2019re going to play offense in order to win the game. So, we also recommend our patients take nutraceuticals such as Neutrafol or Viviscal to ensure that the health of their hair is at its maximum. Some patients prefer the convenience of laser caps, and their compliance rate is very high because they are so easy to use. which makes them very effective. Platelet-Rich Plasma is also very popular with patients with thinning hair.<\/p>\n

Acne in Men<\/h3>\n

I have found that men tend to get more severe forms of acne on the body than women. This could be related to naturally occurring higher testosterone levels. I also see this in those who work out at the gym more and consume products that could be aggravating the hormones, whether it\u2019s whey protein, anabolic steroid use, or other supplements.<\/p>\n
