Haute Beauty Oculoplastic expert\u00a0Dr. Keshini Parbhu<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>started her practice\u00a0Parbhu Oculofacial Plastic Surgery<\/a><\/strong>, in Orlando in 2010. She serves as volunteer faculty and has an appointment with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is also certified by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, an elite and prestigious society of approximately 500 members. Dr. Parbhu has been named one of Orlando\u2019s Best Doctors since 2013.<\/em><\/p>\n

Haute Beauty sits down with Dr. Parbhu to learn more about a lower blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure to permanently address skin laxity under the eyes.<\/em><\/p>\n

HB: What is Lower blepharoplasty and does the procedure work?<\/h3>\n

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty surgically addresses aging changes in the lower eyelid. There is a customized approach to addressing this and could involve removal or transposition of fat, lid tightening or pinch skin excision.<\/p>\n

HB: Who is a good candidate for this procedure?<\/h3>\n

Patients with fat prolapse in the lower eyelids.<\/p>\n

HB: How do you work with patients to achieve the desired outcome?<\/h3>\n

We discuss what their desired outcome is and see if this is something I can achieve. It does help to see photos of patients in their youth. I address the components that are needed to improve the lower eyelid appearance \u2013 this can be fat removal, pinch skin excision, and lid tightening.<\/p>\n

HB: Does this require more than one treatment?<\/h3>\n

No.<\/p>\n

HB: Are results permanent?<\/h3>\n

For the most part \u2013 yes. The aging process may continue but patients will not typically need fat removed again. Patients may develop lid laxity or require pinch skin excision in the future.<\/p>\n

HB: What is recovery like?<\/h3>\n

Two weeks of activity restrictions meaning no heavy lifting, aerobic exercise or bending over. I like for patients to do cold compresses for the first 48 hours and also sleep elevated. I tell patients they can expect one to two weeks of bruising. The majority of their swelling resolves in the first two weeks and it takes four to six weeks for the remaining swelling to go away. Patients must avoid contact lens wear and makeup around the eyes during the first two weeks as well.<\/p>\n
