Of the 1.8 million plastic\u00a0surgery procedures performed in 2018, three of the five most popular focus on the areas beyond the face, which is why ASPS has deemed 2018 the \u201cYear of the Body,\u201d and board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Moises Salama of Miami, Florida<\/a>\u00a0agrees. \u201cThe new ASPS statistics align with some procedures I personally performed in my practice last year, and there\u2019s no question that patients turn to surgery for significant improvement and long-lasting results for a variety of body concerns. Even more, all of these face and body plastic surgery procedures have proven track records for safety and high rates of patient satisfaction, which is why they are consistently among the top five year after year.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Breast<\/p>\n

\nThe details: <\/strong>Breast augmentation involves inserting implants to enhance the size, shape and symmetry of a woman\u2019s natural breasts. With various implant types, incision locations and implant-placement options, breast augmentation is customized for each patient\u2019s unique anatomy, needs and desired outcomes.
\nDr. Salama says:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cI\u2019m not surprised breast augmentation took the number-one plastic surgery spot yet again, as this procedure has a tremendous impact on a woman\u2019s self-esteem. The recovery is also much easier that patients anticipate, and most are able to return to work within five days as long they avoid lifting and other strenuous activity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Liposuction\"<\/p>\n

#2: Liposuction

\nThe details: <\/strong>Liposuction is performed by inserting a long metal tube called a cannula through small incisions in order to loosen unwanted fat before it is removed with vacuum suction. There are a variety of liposuction techniques, including tumescent liposuction and laser liposuction. During tumescent liposuction, the treated area is infused with a solution that helps blood vessels constrict to help minimize bruising and post-operative discomfort while facilitating the removal of fat. Laser liposuction (such as Smartlipo) incorporates ultrasound to help break up fat before it is removed, and may have a skin-tightening effect that can be especially beneficial for patients with a minor loss of skin elasticity.
\nDr. Salama says: <\/strong>\u201cDespite the plethora of non-invasive fat-reduction technologies that have become available, liposuction is still the gold standard for effectively eliminating unwanted fat and contouring the body\u2019s silhouette. The main reason this plastic surgery procedure remains so popular is because it can dramatically improve the appearance of so many areas of the body, including the abdomen, hips, thighs, lower back, buttocks and arms, as well as smaller, more targeted areas like around the bra line.\u201d<\/p>\n
