There are some iconic\u00a0moments in celebrity hair history that we\u2019ll always remember (even if some, we\u2019d hope to forget): the \u201cRachel\u201d cut, \u00e0 la\u00a0Jennifer Aniston<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0on the famed sitcom\u00a0Friends;<\/em>\u00a0when Justin Bieber chopped off his boyish, long locks;\u00a0Sia<\/span><\/strong>'<\/span>s two-toned wig that doubles as a face mask;\u00a0David Beckham<\/a><\/strong>'<\/span><\/span>s early 2000\u2019s faux hawk; and of course,\u00a0Cher<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0hair, which was recently revived by none other than\u00a0Kim Kardashian<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. LA-based celebrity hair stylist,\u00a0Gregory Russell<\/strong><\/span>, whose long list of loyal clients includes Kim Kardashian,\u00a0Miley Cyrus<\/strong><\/span>,\u00a0Hailee Steinfeld<\/strong><\/span>,\u00a0Chloe Grace Moretz<\/strong><\/span>,\u00a0Lily Collins<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Nicole Richie<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(who also happens to be one of his closest friends), is also responsible for some more recent memorable hair history moments, including Miley Cyrus\u2019 extra-long dreads she donned\u00a0at the 2015 VMAs, and Kim Kardashian\u2019s dramatic, lob-chop back in 2015.<\/p>\n

As more people look\u00a0for new looks in the new year, we sat down with Gregory where he works at\u00a0Andy Lecompte<\/strong>\u00a0Salon<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0in Los Angeles, to discuss his coveted hair tips and tricks, as well as working with his world-famous clientele.<\/p>\n

What are your winter hair care tips?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

During the winter, hair tends to get dry due to the weather, so it\u2019s important to keep your hair hydrated. Using healing oils to lock in as much moisture as possible helps a lot. You don\u2019t necessarily need to buy oils from hair\u00a0care brands, but there are a few good ones. My go-to favorites are raw coconut oil, which you can buy from your local Whole Foods, and\u00a0Windle & Moodie\u2019s Invisible Day & Night Cream<\/strong><\/span>. The extra hydration will also help keep those ends from splitting!<\/p>\n

What are the top three hair products that everyone needs to have?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

  3. Ouai Memory Mist<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 This is a great, multifunctional product. It protects your hair from heat styling damage and also helps lock-in your style. It\u2019s the perfect priming product.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The hair-health vitamin craze \u2013 what can you tell us about hair vitamins? Do they work?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    Hair vitamins really make a massive difference. Not only will they help your hair grow faster, but they also help your hair grow thicker. My favorite is Nutrafol. I really like that they have a formula for men and for women, to target specific symptoms, and that they use botanical ingredients. Even if you don\u2019t suffer from hair loss or thinning, everyone can benefit from improving their hair health.<\/p>\n

    You\u2019ve really revolutionized some of the most famous celebrities\u2019 looks with your work (Kim Kardashian\u2019s lob and Miley Cyrus\u2019 dreadlocks, just to name a few). Do you usually collaborate with your celebrity clients and find out what they\u2019re looking for, or do you have a creative vision that they trust you to execute?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    It\u2019s always a collaboration between me and my clients. While I will bring ideas and inspirations to the table, it\u2019s important to me that my clients feel confident, cool and beautiful. I always have my hair inspirations, like Cher, Sylvie Vartan, Deborah Harry, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Patti Hansen, Jerry Hall\u2026pretty much the majority of the 90\u2019s supermodels, but the key is making sure my clients feel like themselves.<\/p>\n

    What are your favorite looks you\u2019ve created?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    I loved the wig I made for Lily Collins at last year\u2019s Met Gala. It was really fun because she is such a classic beauty and pushing the envelope with that edgy hairstyle paid off \u2013 it was totally unexpected and she looked amazing. Another favorite was definitely Miley Cyrus\u2019 dreadlocks when she hosted the VMAs. Miley\u2019s beautiful and always a risk taker, so it\u2019s fun to play around with her look. I\u2019m so grateful to have clients that are willing to push looks and who are comfortable in who they are.
