First and foremost establish your\u00a0why.<\/strong>\u00a0I have said this over and over, but that\u2019s because it\u2019s so critical. \u00a0In truth, getting healthy is simple science. \u00a0Eat less, move more, use common sense with your food choices. \u00a0So if it\u2019s so simple, why is it so hard? \u00a0This is where the motivation component comes in. \u00a0Work without a purpose is punishment, but work that has purpose becomes passion. \u00a0So it\u2019s imperative that you sit down and think of all the things you want for your life and all the ways your life will improve in the long run by sticking with your health and fitness goals for 2018. \u00a0Come up with a detailed list. \u00a0Place it everywhere you can as a constant reminder so that when the going gets tough you have some perspective that the work is worth it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. As mentioned, nutrition is simple science that gets over complicated by fad diets from people trying to reinvent the wheel and sell you something you don\u2019t need. \u00a0<\/strong>The universal rules of healthy eating apply to everyone. \u00a0The first of which is watch how many calories you eat. \u00a0Fat is stored energy and the calories in our food are units of energy. \u00a0No matter how healthy the food is, if you eat too many calories (more than you are burning off in a day) you will store that extra energy as fat. \u00a0So consider a tracking device or app that does it for free. \u00a0Apple\u2019s health app does this and it syncs right up with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jillianmichaels.com\/app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.jillianmichaels.com\/app&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1512456049585000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFelzmIuxyUi3H8sxTaqwKjcpSCpw\">my app<\/a>\u00a0so you can easily enter the foods from your meal plan and know exactly how much you\u2019ve consumed. \u00a0When you are trying to lose over 25 pounds, you should eat no less than 1400 calories a day if you\u2019re a woman and 1600 calories a day if your a man. \u00a0If you are trying to lose the last 10 pounds, you should eat no less than 1600 a day as a woman and no less than 1800 as a man. \u00a0Green vegetables are free foods \u2013 you can eat as much as you want, but you still have to count the sauce or oil they may be cooked in. \u00a0This is because green veggies are loaded with phyto-nutrients, fiber, and water content with very little calories. \u00a0It\u2019s nearly a draw on how much energy it takes to digest them verses how much energy is in them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Eat real food.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0While this should be common sense, there is so much crap in our food that many of us can\u2019t imagine would be legally allowed in our food that we don\u2019t even know what to look for. \u00a0So, in a perfect world, you eat organic whenever possible to avoid chemicals, pesticides, fungicides, antibiotics, hormones etc. Obviously, that is not the easiest thing to do from a cost perspective, so here are some tips to make this work. \u00a0First, even if a product isn\u2019t organic many are ethical enough to avoid the top offenders. \u00a0Look out for hydrogenated oils, fractionated oils, food coloring, artificial sweeteners (stevia, xylitol, erythritol are ok), and MSG. \u00a0Then when it comes to produce, if you can\u2019t go organic choose thick skinned fruits like oranges instead of berries or watermelon instead of peaches, bananas instead of plums etc. \u00a0This is because thick skinned fruits require less pesticides. When it comes to greens choose cruciferous like broccoli over leafy like spinach because cruciferous require less chemicals as well to keep the bugs at bay. \u00a0And last, eat less meat, and when you do, eat and buy organic. \u00a0This matters. Especially when it comes to beef and dairy as well. Or you can choose non-dairy alternatives like coconut or almond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Get a meal plan.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0No one expects you to be a nutritionist and if the above feels overwhelming to you try a meal plan out. \u00a0The key is to find one that is calorie controlled, has ingredients that are affordable and easy to find, and quick to make but tasty to eat.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jillianmichaels.com\/app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.jillianmichaels.com\/app&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1512456049585000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFelzmIuxyUi3H8sxTaqwKjcpSCpw\">My app<\/a>,\u00a0for example, has 5 different meal plans with hundreds of recipes designed with registered dietitians and professional chefs so that no matter if you are vegan, paleo, omnivore, gluten free etc. you can find exactly what you need without having to stress about it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Move.<\/strong>\u00a0While it\u2019s true that there are definitely ideal techniques to achieve results quickly if you don\u2019t like the workout you won\u2019t do it. And the most effective workout is the one you show up for consistently. \u00a0So identify activities you enjoy and work those into your weekly fitness regimen. Whether it\u2019s yoga, spinning, hiking, surfing, skiing etc., put some fun workouts on your to do list for the new year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Get support.<\/strong>\u00a0This is a big one.
