5 Things Dr. Jose Rodríguez-Feliz Can’t Live Without

Whether dining out or spending vacation time in the islands, Miami Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Jose Rodríguez-Feliz enjoys living the good life with his family and friends. Here’s where he’s most likely to be spotted when not performing his favorite surgical procedure or dreaming about his favorite place in the world…

Favorite vacation spot…
“There’s nothing like being home, which is why I love going to Puerto Rico to visit friends and family—and recharge from fun and craziness of Miami. This little island paradise is home to very important people in my life, and my number-one place to stay (and my favorite place on Earth) is Dorado Beach. I love it for so many reasons… I’ve seen its evolution first-hand over the years, and it’s an amazing oasis where nature, sand, surf, sun, people and everything come together for one purpose: To live a beautiful and happy live. I only hope one day I can call it home… Maybe when I retire!”

Favorite restaurants…
“There are so many restaurants in Miami, but the two I love the most are Byblos and Kush. It’s always fun being in Miami Beach, and Byblos at the Royal Palm Hotel is great for Mediterranean food and has excellent service, which makes it perfect for business or family gatherings. When I just want to relax and chill out with my friends and family, I love going to Kush in Wynwood. They have a “pan con bistec” (a Latin-style steak sandwich) with sweet potato fries that is to die for. And on top of that, they play reggae music which is my favorite!”

Grooming…
“I have very curly hair that has always been a challenge to keep in place. A few years ago, a friend of mine recommended Stanley at Gleam Hair Studio in South Miami, which happens to be right next to my office. When I met Stanley and he told me I had options for my hair I was ecstatic, I always thought I had to keep it short! I’m not sure exactly what he did, but I loved it and have been going to him ever since. Now my whole family goes there, including my wife and kids. I also send him a lot of my hair transplant patients! If I am in Puerto Rico and need a trim, I go to Jarold at Casa Barbeiro. I can’t ever be without a good hairstylist, otherwise my hair gets out of control!”

Skincare products…
“Without a doubt, SkinCeuticals is my favorite skincare line. If I had to choose one of their products as my favorite, I would most likely go with the Phloretin CF vitamin C serum. I love how my skin feels after just a few days of using it. I always take it with me when I travel (along with a whole bunch of other products)! Sometimes I use more products than my wife, but I do get a lot of compliments on my skin.”

Favorite surgery to perform…
“My favorite procedure is definitely eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). During my residency training in plastic surgery, I fell in love with the eyelid anatomy and found it very challenging. Blepharoplasty also requires a lot of hand dexterity and a very delicate touch. After my residency in New York, I was accepted to do a fellowship with Dr. Mark Codner in Atlanta, who is a very well-known surgeon and world expert in eyelid surgery. I had an opportunity to write multiple scientific papers as well as a book chapter with him. I learned so much and I owe him a lot. He taught me about more than just eyelid surgery, but how to be a leader and run a cosmetic practice as well. I am now in Miami and a big part of my practice is devoted to complex eyelid surgery. Believe it or not, there are many plastic surgeons that are afraid to do eyelids because of the potential complications. A lot of them send their patients to me and I feel humbled to be able to help these women and men—and that my peers to trust me with their patients.”
