HB: What are your treatment options available to restore enamel?

Depending on the extent of enamel lost, there are different options that can be offered. Bonding can be an option for minor restoration and to protect the tooth. If the enamel loss is significant, covering the tooth with a crown or veneer will not only protect the tooth but also enhance the cosmetic appearance of the tooth as well.

HB: What are the treatments like and how do they work?

Bonding is a simple one visit treatment where a tooth-colored composite resin material is applied and then a special light hardens the material to the tooth. If a crown or veneer is recommended this is a procedure that would involve 2 visits where the tooth is prepped and a custom porcelain veneer or crown is hand made to restore and protect the tooth.

HB: What are the best practices to maintain healthy enamel?

Acids found in the foods and liquids you consume and not properly brushing afterward can be huge contributing factors in enamel erosion. Good oral hygiene rinsing after eating if not able to brush is a good practice to maintain healthy enamel.

HB: What products do you recommend to keep enamel healthy?

You can reduce enamel erosion by keeping acidic foods to a minimum, if you drink carbonated drinks or fruit juice, use a straw to minimize the drink's contact with your teeth. Chewing sugar-free gum helps your mouth to produce more saliva to help counteract the exposure of excess acid. Also brushing with Sensodyne pronamel intensive enamel repair will help strengthen the enamel.

HB: What is the recovery like for in-office treatments?

There is no downtime with either in-office treatment.
