- Bio David Gockley is considered to be one of the major innovators in American opera. He has been committed to broadening and diversifying opera audiences since becoming General Director of the San Francisco Opera in 2006. In his first months as general director, he took opera to the center of the community with a free outdoor simulcast, the first in the company’s history.
