Andrea Michaelson

Andrea Michaelson is the founder and principal of AMD, a multidisciplinary interior design studio recognized for creating deeply personal, emotionally resonant environments. With a background rooted in architecture and more than twenty-five years of experience, Andrea brings a sophisticated, globally informed perspective to every project she undertakes.

Andrea attended the USC School of Architecture and earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design from the prestigious ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena. She began her career in her early twenties as a freelance interior designer while simultaneously working as a fashion designer, marketer, and buyer for a leading Italian footwear brand. Frequent travel throughout Europe during this formative period played a pivotal role in shaping her design philosophy, as she immersed herself in diverse cultures and curated her own collections of textiles, contemporary furniture, and decorative objects.

Her architectural foundation is evident in every AMD project, where thoughtful spatial planning is paired with a refined aesthetic and an intuitive ability to mix periods, cultures, and materials. Andrea’s work is known for its depth, balance, and ingenuity—appealing to a loyal, recurring clientele who value homes that feel authentic, layered, and timeless.

Andrea believes that great design is felt as much as it is seen. Inspired by Maya Angelou’s words—“People may forget what you said or what you did, but they never forget how you made them feel”—she approaches each project as a translation of her client’s emotional sensibility. Acting as both filter and editor, she ensures that every space reflects the client’s soul while elevating it through thoughtful curation, meticulous detailing, and exceptional execution. She is particularly passionate about custom fabrication and sourcing finishes and furnishings that are specific to the site, architecture, and individual lifestyle.

Andrea offers full-service expertise in interior architecture, furnishings, product design, and design-build, with extensive experience in renovations, additions, and new construction. She has a particular affinity for kitchen and bathroom remodels and works seamlessly either independently or in close collaboration with architects, builders, and specialized consultants.

Based in Venice, California, Andrea works extensively in Los Angeles and New York. Her work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Luxe Magazine, Dwell, Aspire, and The Los Angeles Times. She is a proud member of ASID and DLN.
