Les Zygomates Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary With A Tasting Series

Les Zygomates, one of Boston‘s most popular French wine bistros that serves up a side of jazz nightly in the Leather District, is celebrating their 25th year in business in style. This fall, the wine bar is hosting a series of wine tastings where diners can take a culinary journey through different regions of France without having to leave the city.

Les Zygomates (roughly translated to “the muscles in your face that make you smile”) first brought a taste of France to Boston’s Leather District more than two decades ago. Today, it is one of the most popular wine bars in the city to go for live nightly jazz music paired up with rustic French cuisine. From Chardonnay and Bordeaux to Champagne and Merlot, their wine list here is most impressive.

If you aren’t sure what to pair up with each dish, feel free to ask for the chef’s recommendations. From the main menu, we recommend sampling the baked Kumamoto oysters topped with apple jack, diced green apples and mascarpone. We loved Chef Guara’s decadently rich truffled lobster mac and cheese made even better with lobster infused Bechamel and black truffles; and the maple bacon wrapped dates. Specially designed for fall, one of their standout must-try dishes this season is the seared Georges Bank scallops with mint pea creme – simply delicious. Be sure to finish it all off with a sampling of their deconstructed s’mores made with graham crackers, chocolate sauce, Nutella, vanilla ice cream and, of course, Massachusetts’ favorite marshmallow Fluff.

They have also introduced an Old World Meets New World Chardonnay Tuesday tasting series. Host/sommelier Lorenzo Savona (original owner/founder of Les Zygomates) offers diners a unique approach to wine education through his stories and take on old and new world wine culture. Wines will be paired with small plates from Executive Chef Guara Pimenta (think Island Creek Oysters with Mojito foam as well as artisan cheese & charcuterie boards). A recent wine pairing featured tastings of 2017 Kumea River Estate Chardonnay, New Zealand, Domaine Jessiaume Bourgogne Blanc, Burgandy, France, 2016 Elderton E Series “UnOaked” Chardonnay, Australia and 2016 Martin Ray Chardonnay, Sonoma County, CA.

Les Zygomates is located at 129 South Street in Boston.
