Carmelo Anthony has been immortalized in a painting by Kehinde Wiley, of which was unveiled last week at an intimate sit-down dinner hosted by Grey Goose at the Sunset Tower Hotel.
The New York Knicks star was crowned as a “King of Culture” at the dinner, which also served as the third installment of the Modern Kings of Culture Portrait Series.
Maximillian Chow, scion of the art-collecting Chow family of Mr. Chow’s fame, moderated the live Q&A between Kehinde and Carmelo. Chow was humorous and facilitated the discussion about Carmelo and Kehinde’s respective journeys to extraordinary achievement.
The NBA star then discussed his interpretation of being a ‘king of culture’ and not being defined by his industry. “I play basketball and then sit front row at a fashion show, I like to engage with accomplished individuals across the board.” he said.

When the portrait was actually, revealed, Carmelo, a known fan of Kehinde’s work, appeared visibly proud of the piece. Friends including Kelly Rowland and Randy Jackson took photos in front of the portrait with Kehinde and congratulated Carmelo.
Guests were then treated to a seated dinner by the pool against the backdrop of glittering West Hollywood accompanied by special cocktail pairings for each course. Featured cocktails included Grey Goose’s Le Melon Score, Jardin Royal, Le Melon Majestic and Le Melon Cavaillion Crown, each of which was introduced by brand ambassador Randy Evans.
Other guests at the fete included Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles, LA Clipper Matt Barnes and his wife actress Gina Govan and soccer player Jermaine Jones.
