Eye of the Beholder, Dr. Jhonny Salomon

With a foundation pillared on accessibility, comfort, and artistry, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Jhonny Salomon has built a practice that has garnered a worldwide following to his Miami office. Noting his worldwide base and New York clientele more specifically, seven months ago he decided to open in New York City at 911 Park Avenue to suit. “People come to see me from everywhere around to globe, but I had a lot of New York-based patients and this is less stressful for them,” said the doctor. His wish for them? A relaxing recovery in the comfort of their own home. Now Dr. Jhonny Salomon is a man on the move, at the top east coast specialists who divides his time between his successful Miami practice and his burgeoning New York practice, continuing to hold his commitment to client comfort at the forefront.

With a new location, Dr. Salomon can further control every aspect of a patient’s experience to make it the highest and best it can possibly be. This level of attention to detail starts the moment a prospective patient walks through the door through recovery and beyond. This is why the surgeon incorporates lymphatic massage after every procedure, not just body-conscious procedures like liposuction and breast augmentation. While he does do many of these operations (he expressly does not have a more-is-better sensibility when it comes to breast augmentation), the majority of his patients come to him for face work. “That makes up 70% of my business,” he explains. While the doctor brings his sense of proportion and art to all of his work, nowhere is the need for perfection more dire than the face. “I can visualize results. “I see the final product right away in my mind,” he says confidently.

“We have a lot of patients who make a living with their face and cannot afford to take three weeks off from being in front of the camera.”

An avid art collector and photographer, Dr. Salomon sees the connection between cosmetic surgery and art. “The more you train your eye for beauty, the better you become as a plastic surgeon,” he says. His collection includes a vast array of everything from pop to contemporary art, to primitive and antiquity for a classic sense of proportion. In addition to making more perfect bodies and faces, the doctor also likes to make beautiful images of the exotic destinations he travels to. “I create with my photography, I create everyday at work and I think it all goes hand in hand.”

“You have to be a perfectionist to get it right,” he says, noting that he can never relax, no matter how many surgeries he has done. “Everyone is different. You need to study the patient, study what they want, the result you can deliver, study how to make it natural, beautiful, elegant and symmetrical. Then figure out what tools are out there to accomplish it.”

The doctor says his goal is not to make people look like someone else, but like they did ten, fifteen or maybe even twenty years ago. Dr. Salomon prefers to give an idea of how results will be by using the patient’s own face.

Although he can’t drop names, Dr. Salomon has a lot of celebrity clients and well known faces passing through his doors. “We have a lot of patients who make a living with their face and cannot afford to take three weeks off from being in front of the camera.” Dr. Salomon has his own techniques to minimize scarring and bruising, “I can do it so there is almost zero bleeding. I avoid planes of tissues that are not key to the procedure and can have patients back to work, in the public eye within 7-10 days.”

While salomon is still a little skeptical about some of the new treatments in the industry, he is very excited about fat grafting from stem cells. “We use this for the face and the buttocks.” Younger people have more stem cells than older people and this allows patients to increase the number in certain areas with their own cells, which are spun, concentrated and reinjected. These new therapies are part of an overall movement to new and more natural results. “We understand the human body and aging process better now, and this helps achieve more natural results. And this is the world wide trend; over done is out, natural is in.”

Dr. Salomon is also excited about lasers and feels that the companies developing them are on the forefront. “Every month there are new technologies to address different issues: removing tattoos, improving skin, veins, etc. It is a good time to be practicing; I think it’s a time of change.”
