The Defender, Golden Gate Yacht Club-Oracle Team USA

Golden Gate Yacht Club is the home port of Oracle Team USA, the defender of the 34rd America’s Cup, which selected San Francisco for the race. Located on the jetty north of the Marina Green, the Golden Gate Yacht Club was founded in 1939 by a group of enthusiastic sailors and boaters.

The Golden Gate Yacht Club is the sixth trustee and holder of the Cup since 1851 and Oracle Team USA is the only American Challenger to have won since 1987.

An America’s Cup Team must have a yacht club to make the official challenge to race. The Golden Gate Yacht Club has represented Oracle Team USA in the past three America’s Cup competitions and defending the trophy at the 34th America’s Cup, the oldest trophy for international competition in any sport. It’s a symbol of hopes, dreams, and disappointments of those who have competed for it and the ultimate sailing experience. The Golden Gate Yacht Club is the sixth trustee and holder of the Cup since 1851 and Oracle Team USA is the only American Challenger to have won since 1987.

The America’s Cup is undoubtedly sailing’s most prestigious trophy. Norbert Bajurin, Commodore of Golden Gate Yacht Club and Larry Ellison, owner of Oracle Team USA, are determined to win the race and keep the Cup not only in the United States but in San Francisco.
