Out with Alisa: Gala-Hopping in London

Although some may say the drizzly weather in London this time of year makes it an odd choice for a trip, I would argue its bustling social scene more than makes up for any shortcomings of sun. I recently jetted over to London for three days and as many events, and am happy to report the Fall social schedule is in full swing.

First up was Elton John’s annual Grey Goose Winter Ball. As guests pulled up to the Battersea Power Station, they were dazzled by the decor, with flowers everywhere and a sparkling glamor which evoked the Côte d’Azur of the 1950s. As with everything Elton does, it was very beautiful. The evening featured a three-course dinner by French chef Hélène Darroze and a live performance by “Diamond Rings” singer Emeli Sandé. A live auction of bespoke items raised $1,095,582 for Elton’s incredible AIDS Foundation. Guests included Elizabeth Hurley and cricket player boyfriend Shane Warne, as well as Rena and Makram Abboud, Julia Goncharuk, Kevin Spacey, Robert Hissom, Lisa and Robert Tchenguiz, Christina Juffali and Johan Eliasch.

Next up was The Place for Peace Gala, organized by author and philanthropist Ella Krasner, which she hosted alongside Academy-Award winning actor Forest Whitaker. The gala evening, held at London’s Banqueting House, raised nearly $500,000 for the Peace Earth Foundation. Guests flocked to the event in support of Ella, including supermodels Natalia Vodianova and Karolína Kurková, actors Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Dylan McDermott, as well as Sting’s wife, actress Trudie Styler.

Last but certainly not least was the event hosted by luxury jewelry and watch makers De Grisogono. A party hosted by this company will never fail to surprise and delight. The company’s president and founder Fawaz Gruosi presided over the private dinner, where both models and guests sparkled in De Grisogono designs.
