New Twitter Headquarters Creates Battle for Space for Restaurants

Social media company Twitter has moved its San Francisco headquarters to Market Street and local restaurants are competing for the opportunity to set up shop nearby. With limited spaces on the street level, restaurateurs are all hoping they can squeeze in.
As the Twitter employees settle into their new office space, downstairs on the street level restaurateurs are hoping to get a space in the limited open locations nearby. Located in a two-building collection called Market Square, the new building takes up a whole block between 9th and 10th streets. Depending on how the final spaces on the ground level get separated and designed, there is room for between four and seven restaurants with spaces ranging from 1,000 to 6,000 square feet.
Market Square’s Julie Taylor said, “We know this will be a dining destination just like Ferry Building. What’s most important to use is we select restaurants that will resonate with the residents of the building and the surrounding area, but are also so noteworthy that they draw from a significant distance.”
According to Taylor, discussions with high-profile Bay Area restaurants are already in progress and they hope to offer a mix of casual and high-end dining options. Though she won’t provide specifics, Taylor did indicate that a few influencers have checked out the spaces, but no one has officially inked a deal.
Whatever they end up being, the restaurants should open by early 2013.
