Barrett-Jackson’s 10th Annual Classic Car Auction Estimated To Attract 60,000
Barrett-Jackson brings its classic auction to West Palm Beach today for the tenth year in a row. The company, based in Scottsdale, Ariz., is known for its high-end classic cars such as a 1966 Shelby GT350 and a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette.
The auction, which takes place at the South Florida Fairgrounds, offers and “electric mix” and usually has more bidders than cars. It runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. More than 60,000 people are estimated to attend.
Featured at the auction will be 450 cars, including a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible, 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet, 1956 Ford F-100 Custom Pickup and a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Convertible.
The car that is predicted to draw the most attention is a 1954 Buick Skylark, which has sold between $175,000 and $300,000.
Collectors and consumers are also interested in ’60s muscle cars. Chevrolet will auction a Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition at the Barrett-Jackson car auction. Proceeds will go to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. The car will be the 100th car off the 2012 Corvette assembly line.
The event also serves as an educational experience for car collectors. The auction will be broadcast on the Speed Channel Cable Network for 20 hours.
