Both the Western and Eastern traditions celebrate the ushering in of new hope, new ideas and new projects. I have anticipated these evolutions in my own way, creating a new jewelry collection called Symbols.
Multicultural New York City is host to countless different nationalities and has the largest overseas Chinese population in the United States. The fascinating blend of cultures that continues to evolve over time is one of New York’s trademarks, one that particularly fascinates me.
That’s why OC Concept Store will soon be hosting an art show that explores the merger of East and West. Helen Sutin, a Swiss classical musician, has been working with young Chinese artist Qian Chong, who was active in the underground music scene in Switzerland. Though from diverse origins, together they have spread their wings into painting, particularly exploring portraits, colors and textures with fresh and provoking talent. The dialogue between the two cultures creates a juxtaposition that is truly unique.
As the Western world moves towards Christmas and the New Year, the Asian communities are also beginning to prepare for the Chinese New Year and the Lantern Festival. My Symbols collection includes Chinese, Tibetan and Indian protection symbols. In delicate gold inlaid with diamonds, each symbol carries a meaning. The Chinese symbols represent love, friendship, strength and beauty. Om is a sacred Indian symbol, representing the origin of creation. The Tibetan mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” signifies compassion. According to what you wish for, you can wear one or several of these fine chains to make it all come true. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season.
