Haute Event: South Beach Wine & Food Fesitval’s Let Them Eat Cake
It was a purple and pink wonderland last night atop the beautiful Herzog & de Mueron building at 1111 Lincoln Road as guests and celebrities came out in hoards to celebrate the sweetest sold out event at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival‘s, Let Them Eat Cake. The over the top cakes, which paid homage to the 10th anniversary of the festival, artistically impressed as well as hit the sweet spot.
Hosted by Emeril Lagasse and Martha Stewart and sponsored by Moet Chandon, the 500+ guests in attendance were treated to an endless array of sweets by top pastry mavens like Duff Goldman, Jacques Torres, Lori Karmel, Sweet Street Desserts and Ron Ben-Israel who was spotted dancing with a Carnaval dancer during a special performance around 11 p.m. Other surprises included ice sculpting demonstrations and acrobatic performances atop Marie Antoinette inspired chandeliers.
Cake balls, cupcakes, and slices were paired with specialty cocktails by Moet Chandon, Hennessy, and Grand Marnier. Danny Meyer, of Shake Shack, also made a quick appearance, and burgers from the outpost were passed to curb the sugar highs. DJ Danny Stern provided the night’s musical entertainment and two of the city’s top cigar houses were in house giving out samples of the smooth digestif. Apart from the hosts and Lee Schrager, celebrities in attendance included Debbie Mazar, Tedd Allen, Fabio Viviani, Wylie Dufresne, Bob Tuschman, and Hedy Goldsmith. The event was a great celebration of the spirit of the Festival and for what’s to come in the next decade, meaning it’s only going to get bigger and sweeter from here.
