Culinary Crazy: Taco Asylum Debuts

Going crazy looking for a new place to get your taco fix? There’s no need to be chasing a truck around using your GPS and Twitter and there’s definitely no reason to be driving across the county looking for good eats. For tacos that are anything but normal — not to mention with a location that’s not moving every day — head to Taco Asylum to sate your cravings.

Open Jan. 13, Taco Asylum is the brainchild of Haven Gastroup’s (one of Orange County’s best restaurants for the gastronomically adventurous) team. Executive Chef Greg Daniels has concocted taco combinations that bring together flavors from around the world including Mediterranean and Indian twists on the traditional taco. Everything from the tortillas, marinades and even sauces are made in-house, meaning you’ll be getting the freshest flavors around.  To name just a few of the worldly tacos, the menu’s got grilled octopus on a flour tortilla with kalamata olives, oregano, feta, tomatoes. The escolar taco is served on a cabernet tortilla, with aioli and  green cabbage slaw while the  pork belly is on a flour tortilla with carrots, daikon, onions and cilantro.

Add beverage director Wil Dee’s beers and natural sodas and you can’t ask for a better combo for lunch, dinner or any time you’re aching for some spice in your restaurant routine.

Taco Asylum is located at 2937 S. Bristol St., Suite B102 at the CAMP in Costa Mesa. For more information, call 714-922-6010 or visit www.tacoasylum.com.
