Say Oui to New Cocktail Lounge Liberté
Philadelphia has been wanting for a good hotel bar. The Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia’s Swann Lounge is lovely, but perhaps a bit too formal for a truly good time. The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia lost its great Vault space when 10 Arts arrived (although the restaurant’s bar is quite a good time). The Sofitel is aiming to change this oversight, by upgrading its already popular lobby lounge into the luxurious new Liberté, opening today.
Channeling it’s proprietor’s French roots, the lounge pulls its culinary inspiration from the country’s many food-obsessed regions. Chef Kevin Levett will offer a menu made of morsels perfect for a Happy Hour fix or a casual supper. Margret duck breast cassoulet, coq au Vin drumsticks and rich lamb loin with ratatouille are sure to transport diners to a Parisian bistro in no time.
This is a lounge, though, and the drinks are not to be outdone. Mixologist Mark Yanga — named “Best New/Upcoming Mixologist” by Time Out Chicago in 2009 — has put together a beverage list of updated classics that intrigues and entices; we for one can’t wait to try the Crimson, a blend of Absolut Citron, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, raspberry-tarragon puree and lemon juice. A diverse beer and wine list, including flights, is also available.
Wine red actually seems to be the color of choice at Liberté, as the once gray walls now host pops of burgundy. Guests can enjoy the new decor from a sleek oval-shaped bar or cozy couches, both of which have a view of the working fireplace. Chic and sleek, this new space is sure to seduce hotel guests and locals alike.
Liberté is located at 120 South 17th St., 215.569.8300, www.libertelounge.com
