Aesthetic specialist and nurse practitioner, Zara Harutyunyan discusses the different options to diminish the appearance of acne scars. Acne has an emotional impact on many teens and young adults, but the scars that are left are always disheartening.

Cosmetic Rejuvenation Medical Center (CRMC) is where Zara practices her aesthetic medicine. CRMC receives many calls from patients inquiring about acne scar treatments. After investigating different devices and treatment protocols we chose 4 modalities for our practice that we find work best. At our practice we offer DermaPen, eMatrix, EndyMed Intensif and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma).

Patient’s with minor scarring that include slightly uneven skin texture or discoloration from previous acne are great candidates for DermaPen. DermaPen is the world’s leading micro-needling device that allows different speeds and depths to the needles to promote collagen and elastin production. There is no downtime and visible great results. Patients usually need 6-8 sessions.

The second option is eMatrix. eMatrix is unique treatment that uses radio frequency to deliver ablative and non-ablative fractional pulses to the skin. This causes the collagen to regenerate and remodel therefore improving the uneven skin from scarring. For best results patients will need from 5-7 treatments.

Zara loves one of the newer lasers at CRMC, which is EndyMed Intensif. EndyMed Intensif is a great combination of radiofrequency(RF) and micro-needling. Endymed delivers RF energy through the micro-needles to trigger the production of collagen. Most patients only need 3-5 treatments to see a very significant difference in their skin.

Lastly, we recommend PRP to any of the above 3 devices. Plasma contains high concentration of platelets, stem cells, and growth factors. Platelets help your tissue heal and grow new cells. When PRP is applied after DermaPen, eMatrix or EndyMed Intensif it releases growth factors and in return will stimulate and accelerate healing. Zara wants patients to know that all the above treatments are color-blind and can be used on all skin types.
