New York Knicks and Olympic hoops standout Carmelo Anthony did not take Team USA’s surprisingly narrow victory over Lithuania lightly. “It was a little bit tighter than what we expected,” Anthony said of the five-point win over the weekend. “Lithuania was focused, and it kind of caught us on our heels. We won’t get caught on our heels again.”
The crew led by Anthony, Lebron James and Kobe Bryant have little room for error against Argentina, which is 3-1 (after a stunning loss to France) so far this Games and features NBA peers like Luis Scola and Manu Ginobili. Speaking of the Argentinians, Anthony said, “First of all, we respect them guys…But then again, we go out there trying to win by any means necessary. They’re trying to do the same things.” The American team, with not-so-secret aspirations to mimic 1992’s famous Olympic “Dream Team,” plays Argentina today at 5:15 p.m. EST.
