- Bio Silicon Valley pioneer Tom Perkins has been a Director of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers since 1996, and a partner since 1972. His venture capital firm has created some of the most interesting and innovative businesses in the world such as Genentech, Netscape, and Google. For his 70th birthday, he built the 289-ft. Maltese Falcon megayacht, which he sold in 2009 for $90 million. Perkins was briefly married to novelist Danielle Steel from 1998 -1999.
