David Mallett is widely considered one of the best hairdressers in the world and to his clients, he is undoubtedly the most trusted one. He currently operates two salons in Paris, one in The Ritz Paris and one in a grand 17th-century hôtel particulier off Place des Victoires in the heart of the city. Mallett’s eponymous salon has become one of the most prominent beauty addresses in the City of Light and now it’s coming stateside.

Located within the New York location of luxury multi-brand boutique The Webster, Mallett’s New York outpost will mark the
hairstylist’s first salon outside of Paris. The 1,600-square-foot space was shaped by renowned French architect Charles Zana and designed to be very intimate and exclusive. The Soho based salon is overlooked by Mallett’s senior stylists and colorists from France, or by the man himself if you’re lucky to catch him while he is in town, which will be at least 10 days of each month.

Rather than cast onto the street front, David Mallett à New York will be discreetly kept from view. The eight-chair studio located on the fifth floor of The Webster combines old-world grandeur of enormous ceilings with original architectural details of historical New York and an ever-present friendly ambience.

“I am extremely excited to open my third salon, this time in New York. Laure Heriard Dubreuil’s The Webster concept is the best imaginable place for us – its unique atmosphere, highest quality service and finest taste in luxury make it an absolute dream come true,” explains Mallett.

Over the course of his career, Mallett has been on call to many leading fashion executives, supermodels, stylists, and designers. His creative vision and technical innovation have contributed to some of the most iconic images in fashion advertising over the past two decades including being chosen by Karl Lagerfeld to style Christy Turlington for Chanel. He has also worked on flagship campaigns for Lancel, Dior, L’Oréal, Sonia Rykiel, Givenchy, Pirelli and La Perla.

For Mallett, beauty is global, “The writer Dostoyevsky once said that beauty would save the world. I have worked on cinema sets and fashion editorials – from Alfred Hitchcock to Playboy bunnies’ – and it is true, beauty is universal.”

Not only is Mallett bringing his famous salon to New York, he is also bringing a brand new treatment with him: the Tokio Treatment. Also known as a hair facial, the Tokio Treatment is a deep treatment method that targets chemical and mechanical damage for a period of 4 to 6 weeks. The treatment is done in 4 steps, each one targeting a different hair-layer. Each phase uses different combinations of molecules. The ingredients include 8 keratins and numerous vegetal extracts, which are combined with fullerene. These molecules help the product penetrate the hair and fuse with natural fibers, meaning that the Tokio Treatment can deep-repair and protect in 30-60 minutes depending on hair length.

Mallet truly loves what he does, “Having your hair styled is an incredibly intimate experience. I take very seriously the trust that people place in my hands.”
