“Walking to work became a dream we wanted to realize,” Yves Behar says on why he and co-founders, Amir Mortazavi and Steve Mohebi, opened their luxe co-working space, Canopy on Fillmore Street. The trio decided to design “a new type of calm, beautiful, and social space where different people with different passions meet. We found an unoccupied space on the corner of Sacramento and Fillmore; we called it Canopy and built our work-Nirvana!”

As Pacific Heights is home to both their work and personal lives, Behar, Mortazavi, and Mohebi have an intimate relationship with the area. “Fillmore Street in San Francisco has organically evolved to be the perfect high street that has everything a resident in the neighborhood needs to live well,” Mortazavi explains. “It’s flanked by two incredible parks (Lafayette and Alta Plaza) which have breathtaking views of the cities and playgrounds that I frequent with my wife and son. The tennis courts and open grass fields are loads of fun for my dog to run around and meet our neighbors.”

Mortazavi frequents the Clay Street Theater and enjoys improvisational jazz and blues at the Boom Boom Room. His favorite places to shop include “Rag and Bone for jeans, 45R for the best Japanese linen and denim clothing that is dyed naturally! Plus, Ilesteva shades for the blinding San Francisco summer fog.” Behar prefers “Credo for non-toxic skin products, the bookstore right underneath Canopy for books, James Perse for yoga clothes, Mudpie for kids clothes, Freda Salvador for shoes for my wife, and Le Labo for bath products and perfume presents.”

Canopy fans can find the guys dining near the office at Out the Door, Jane, SPQR, Palmer’s Tavern, and Pizzeria Delfina. “I eat lunch in the neighborhood almost daily, and my go-to is either a bowl of pho from OTD, a rainbow salad from Jane, a grilled chicken burrito from Taco Bar, or the sesame salmon salad from Glaze,” Mortazavi says. What makes the Pacific Heights so special to them? Behar eloquently puts it like this: “The neighborhood is a mix of the old classics and the new. We love the restaurants, the bars, and shopping boutiques, and we thought that more people working in the neighborhood would mean more business for those neighbors.”
