Designers Paul Andrew and Guillaume Meilland showcased their Salvatore Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2019 collection at Milan Fashion Week in Italy, where A-list celebrities like Julianne Moore, Armie Hammer, Elizabeth Chambers and Ellie Bamber attended in the audience. Supermodel Kaia Gerber also walked the show.

The collection played on the utilitarianism trend, using neutral hues of biscuit, khaki-fatigue, parchment and off-white, accentuated with bolder colors like emerald, Caribbean blue, violet, flame red and burnt orange. A wide variety of high-end materials was also featured, such as leather, knits, linens and organzas. For womenswear, standout pieces included nappa leather dungarees and foulard-lined bombers, while standout menswear pieces included mesh t-shirts and leather bonded and detailed linen jeans.

Unlike most fashion runways, the cast of the Ferragamo show was distinctly diverse, featuring men and women of varying ages, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds, reflecting and celebrating the real world we live in.

“Alongside Guillaume, I’m working to make a Salvatore Ferragamo that not only appeals to all generations but also acts as a point of connection between them,” begins Andrew. “The soul of this house lies in the artistic and technical genius of Salvatore’s shoe designs – his genius never gets old – and that is where we started with this collection.”
Shoes were also a key part of the collection. The iconic Vara was brought back to the collection, while knee-high boots, raised sandals and mens’ desert boots also walked the runway. Each pair of boots his handcrafted by a Ferragamo artisan, who spends 16 hours weaving 330 meters of nappa with the highest level of care and detail.
