Interior designer and man about town Jay Jeffers is known for his daring modern designs. He’s also a superb host who happens to throw fantastic fiestas. Last week his two talents came together at the launch of his second book, Be Bold. The sensational event took place at lux showroom Coup D’Etat and had a theme that mimicked the title of the book.

The coffee table tome features 14 homes designed by Jeffers and his team—including his personal one-bedroom San Francisco apartment and Napa Valley retreat. “Moving into a new home is an opportunity to experiment with color combinations and furniture arrangements, and to conceive clever design solutions along the way,” he writes. “In my case, trading an Edwardian house dating back to 1910 for a one-bedroom condo—in an award-winning San Francisco building designed by architect Anne Fougeron—also gave me the chance to pare belongings down to the essentials for a fresh look.” Jeffers goes on to describe how he created his space, surrounding himself with favorite things—like his husband Michael Purdy and a 1970s sofa by Milo Baughman.

The book is filled with pictures and serves as a beautiful inspiration to anyone interested in design. Masculine details abound along with adventurous prints, pops of color, and interesting artwork. Jeffers has quite the local following as was apparent at last week’s party. More than 300 of his friends gathered at the incredible showroom to celebrate Jeffers and his accomplishments.

Handsome men in robin’s blue bowties and suspenders with white tanks printed with “Go Bold or Go Home” poured magnums of Billecart-Salmon rosé. Waitstaff passed appetizers—delicious steak tartare and mini pretzel buns with braised beef while the crowd, in bold looks, mingled. There was much to see, from a real dinosaur fossil to an artistic balloon installation and mural by Area Environments. A makeup application area allowed people to glam up their looks with a photo booth nearby to snap that all-important Instagram.

While charming the crowd, Jeffers signed books and posed for pictures, looking dapper in a mustache and jacket that looked like the wallpaper print in his SF home. Like the book, it was a fabulous, over-the-top, and playful evening that captivated guests including  Holly Baxter, Burcu Garnier, Shauna Harden, Reese and Shawn Forbes, and Lisa Dolby Chadwick.
