Robin McGraw has a mission: She wants all women to choose to live their lives with passion and purpose, as she herself does. McGraw, who has been married to talk show host Dr. Phil for 42 (count ’em!) years and a prominent fixture on his show since its inception—September marks the show’s 17th season—decided to found the Robin McGraw Revelation Lifestyle Brand in 2014. Her mission is to encourage women to believe that it is not selfish to put themselves first, to understand that they deserve to embrace their own beauty, health, and happiness, and to know they must take care of themselves in order to take care of those they love.

In the brand’s first year, she partnered with the Home Shopping Network for an exclusive launch of her original skincare line. This debut broke all records, including new customers and “sold-out” sales, to name a few, on every appearance over a 24-hour time period ever held on the network, and two years later, in 2016, she then launched Robin McGraw Revelation’s Luxury Skincare Collection.

In addition to her success as an entrepreneur, McGraw has written two books, both of which debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestsellers list and which have sold over 1.5 millions copies, and is an active philanthropist; she is a founding board member of The Dr. Phil Foundation, National Spokesperson for Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (C.A.S.A.), National Celebrity Spokesperson for the Girl Scouts of the USA and a member of the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet. McGraw, who turns 65 this year, is truly a woman who embodies having it all—and who seems to have turned back the clock as she does so. Here, she shares secrets to anti-aging with Haute Living.

1. I am convinced that every woman should truly believe it is never too late to start taking care of yourself. Be excited about putting yourself first, and never feel guilty about doing it. My belief is you must take care of yourself, so you can take care of those you love.

2. One of my most consistent anti-aging rituals is simply sipping water. I prefer room temperature and at least 24 ounces throughout the day. Whenever I have not done this, I am so aware of the negative effect it has on my hair, face, my hands, just my overall body, head to toe. Simply said, hydration, hydration, hydration!

3. I believe it’s so important to take the time to educate yourself on your own body. Do the research and find out what makes you feel your healthiest, strongest, and most powerful. Or, if you have to, do just the opposite. Think about what you might be eating, thinking, or practicing, that makes you feel your weakest. You are in charge of your health, take control.

4. Never lose your own fun personality! Don’t let anyone else influence you on what you believe makes you feel and look young and happy. To me, that’s a huge part of what life is all about, deciding to live your life with peace and joy. Life is short and we all have our rough days, sometimes it’s a choice to not let the stress take control. Choose to have fun!

5. Get smart about your exercise. My thought is, find out what works for your body and also what you love to do, and do that. Change it up when you are ready to. I love change, so I am always trying something new. As long as it gives me results, and I enjoy it, I will do it. One of my favorites is the treadmill, when I can pre-set a program that has been tailored just for me, I set it and forget it. Then, I can just enjoy that time for myself. I also love taking tennis lessons, practicing Pilates, working with a trainer, but… yoga? I tried it once, not for me! Bottom line, do what you enjoy, not what your friends enjoy.

6. To add to the exercise point, I want to get more specific. For me, the aging process has shown up in my elbows and knees the most. So, what I am saying ladies, is keep doing those arm curls and lunges, because it will pay off long-term. We all have different areas of our bodies that we have actually inherited from our parents that we cannot do anything about. It still helps to focus on doing what we can to feel our best and look our best. Actually, it might be beneficial to hire a trainer to help you learn how to work on the areas you want to perfect. But remember, do it for yourself, no one else.

7. The most important anti-aging tip for any woman, whatever age, is skincare. As I mentioned before, it’s never too late and it’s never too early to start taking care of your skin. I learned that at a very early age, probably ten years old, when I visited my grandmother and she put us out at the pool for the day at the Holiday Inn while she worked the hostess stand in the restaurant. I was sunburned like a potato in a frying pan. I was so burned that night as I sat in the tub full of some concoction she believed was a family secret that would heal me, I prayed to God that if he took the pain away, I would never, ever, put myself in the sun again. It worked!!! So, ladies, trust me, stay out of the sun! Do everything you can to pamper and protect your skin. Cleanse, scrub, serum, feed, nourish, protect, hydrate, infuse… every chance you get just focus on nourishing your face, your hands, your entire body. I promise you, it makes a difference. Retinol, hydration, hyaluronic acid, hydration, brightening, hydration…you get my point.
