Brooks Brothers Celebrates 200 Years Of American Style With Exhibition At Grand Central Terminal

America’s oldest retailer, Brooks Brothers, continues to celebrates its milestone 200-year anniversary with a special retrospective exhibition in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal.

From August 6 through September 5, presented in partnership with Citi, the exhibition, Brooks Brothers: 200 Years of American Style, will feature a selection from the brand’s historic archives over the past two centuries.

Located in Vanderbilt Hall within Grand Central Terminal, a block away from the iconic Madison Avenue flagship store, the exhibition features a sampling of men’s and women’s fashion, artifacts and imagery that trace Brooks Brothers’ inventions and innovations over the years. The display includes the ready-made suit and other ready-to-wear tailored clothing in the 19th century, the Original Polo Button-Down Oxford, the reverse-stripe rep tie, the polo coat, and sporting apparel later adapted for daily life.

The exhibition also explores themes and era-defining moments such as the roaring twenties, mid-century Madison Avenue, the brand’s lasting effect on college campuses and its unique distinction of having outfitted 40 out of 45 U.S. presidents.

“As we continue this yearlong celebration, this exhibition allows us to share our legendary story that began in New York City a remarkable 200 years ago,” said Brooks Brothers Chairman and CEO Claudio Del Vecchio.“Brooks Brothers has outfitted an ever-changing world and is consistently pursuing quality and innovation. The exhibition will highlight a sampling of iconic items that have revolutionized and defined American style as we know it today.”

In the center of the space stands an 18-foot-high video sculpture in the form of the brand’s logo, the Golden Fleece. The multifaceted sculpture is comprised of 100 LED screens that will take visitors through a visual journey of the brand as well as highlight some of its notable clientele including Hollywood legends, writers, politicians and artists.

Brooks Brothers will also be selling a selection of commemorative, limited-edition products created to celebrate its milestone 200th anniversary, including pocket squares, ties, gift items and a special edition Monopoly game.

Admission is free and will be open to the public from August 6 through September 5, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.
