Lookout Rooftop Expands Its Impressive Outdoor Space

Just when we thought The Envoy Hotel’s haute rooftop scene in Boston couldn’t get any better, Lookout Rooftop goes and completes a $4 million expansion. The result? They added another near 2,500 square feet of outdoor space where you can kick back and relax in a plush seat in the new Harbor Lounge while taking in some of the most breathtaking oceanfront views of our beautiful city.

“When we first opened in 2015, the vision of the Rooftop was to be a hotel bar,” said Joe Mellia, general manager of The Envoy Hotel. “The ownership didn’t expect it to be the sensation that it is today. Originally, we had 4,000 square feet of outdoor space with views of the skyline and Boston Harbor. There were so many social media posts at the time because no one has this view.”

The Innovation District property located just steps from the Seaport District is now owned by Hersha Hospitality, “The company spent $4 million to include another 2,200 square feet that can accommodate now up to 390 guests,” Mellia added. “The rooftop space now includes the entire length of the hotel with banquettes for groups of six to eight people. We had absolutely stunning views of all of Boston, but now the view includes East Boston.

“We didn’t think the views could get any better, but they did. Part of the harbor was blocked off and in years past, when they did fireworks on the harbor, the view was blocked. Now we can see everything. This was the first building constructed in what is now known as the Innovation District. The Rooftop closes at midnight on the weekends because we want our guests to enjoy a good night’s sleep. We are just a quick walk from One Seaport Square, which has restaurants, Kings, Showcase Icon and The Grand nightclub. Everything is within walking distance for those looking for a late night on the town.”

The expanded space now include a new VIP space known as the Harbor Lounge, an intimate seated section with plush lounge seating and harbor views. Be sure to also keep an eye out for their interactive programs this summer, which include rooftop yoga for guests to enjoy.

Lookout has also rejuvenated its beverage program by offering handcrafted cocktails from mixologist Brian McDougal. Highlights include the Seaport Sangria (Blush Wine, Peach Schnapps, Bols Elder Flower, Pineapple Juice), Old Cuban (Stolen Smoked Rum, Lime Juice, Bitters, Mint, Prosecco) and Bees Nest (Glendalough Wild Gin, Honey Hibiscus, Lemon Juice, Tangerine Fruitation).

This year-round haute spot sizzles during the winter months when the rooftop transforms into a winter wonderland equipped with heated Igloos that can accommodate up to 10 guests.
