This live entertainment favorite has people of all ages flocking here for its daily lineup of eclectic performers. The intimate South End space comes alive each night with live jazz, soul, blues, reggae and soul music. Some standout dishes to enjoy while listening to the tunes include duck au poivre, grilled skirt steak with goat cheese grits, and day boat scallops with smoked cherries. There is a jazz brunch held every weekend (Saturdays and Sundays) and they also offer a late night menu for a good excuse to linger a little longer during the week.

City Winery

You might not expect to find some of the hottest names in music and comedy (think Gene Simmons,,The English Beat and Kevin Nealon) at a wine bar just steps from the North End, but City Winery delivers just that. The restaurant/winery/entertainment venue offers a varied menu that includes everything from flatbreads and charcuterie boards to hummus plates for sharing. Creative Mediterranean-inspired main events include Mongolian grilled baby back pork ribs, shrimp tagliatelle and chicken coq au vin.

The Regattabar

Tucked inside the third floor of The Charles Hotel in Harvard Square, The Regattabar has been a city staple for hosting some of the best live jazz acts since it opened here more than 30 years ago. There are just 225 seats here to ensure an intimate setting with a great view from every table. From local rising musicians to marquee jazz artists, this is the place to go to get your groove on. We recommend pairing up a classic cocktail (a Hemingway daiquiri or sidecar perhaps?) with a New England cheese plate to share or some light fare like a smoked turkey with boursin sandwich.

Laugh Boston

The cool Seaport District got a whole lot hotter when Laugh Boston opened inside the Westin Hotel a few years ago. Acts range from stand up to improvisational comedy featuring local and national talent. Head to this sibling of the North End’s sketch favorite (Improv Asylum) Wednesday through Saturday if you need a good laugh. Try a sunset bowl tequila bowl for sharing with up to three of your closest friends to kick off this party right. The atmosphere here is casual and so is the fare (think snacks, salads and paninis).

Scullers Jazz Club has been a landmark since it opened in 1989 welcoming some of the biggest names in Latin and contemporary jazz along with blues, R&B and soul. The recently renovated club has hosted some of the biggest names in music, including Cecile McLorant Salvant, Brad Mehldau, The Bad Plus, Harry Connick Jr., Chris Botti, Jamie Cullam, Dee Dee Bridgwater, Christian Scott, Christian Sands, Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett, David Sanborn, Michael Buble, Arturo Sandoval and Wynton Marsalis.
