Beloved Japanese chef Katsuya Uechi has debuted his 14th namesake restaurant as Katsuya opens in the brand-new SLS LUX Brickell Hotel & Residences from the dynamic duo of sbe and The Related Group. Located in the bustling Brickell neighborhood, which is exploding after the introduction of the neighboring Brickell City Centre, the hot spot welcomes hotel guests, residents and visitors alike to come and enjoy the ever-famous Katsuya cuisine in one of Miami’s hottest locations.

The restaurant debuts in partnership with global hospitality powerhouse sbe, which has been working with chef Katsuya since the first restaurant concept. Now 14 restaurants later, the brand has become known for concocting impeccable and innovative Japanese cuisine with favorite signature dishes including the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Baked Dynamite Crab Roll, Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalepeño and the Miso Black Cod.

Katsuya Brickell brings a new level of luxury with it as it boasts a stunning and unique interior decor, created by global design houses Yabu Pushelberg and Arquitectonica, which also curated the rest of the property including the hotel and residences. The dark, earthy interior pays homage to the history of Japanese hospitality. The restaurant boasts two main areas—the main dining room and a second dining space that centers around the lively sushi bar. Along the sides are also private dining spaces, decorated with touches of Japanese artwork and collectibles.

Each area incorporates unique features of art. George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg note that one of the focal points is the exaggerated Daruma-inspired art installations that hang suspended above the main dining room. Wooden elements and touches of bamboo throughout the space truly give it an authentic feel, and the dim lighting also helps create a sexy dining atmosphere.

On the menu is a lengthy list of Katsuya favorites, some of which are elevated for the more discerning diners, with chef Denevin Miranda helming the kitchen as executive chef for the property. Noteworthy dishes include the Crispy Rice with the addition of caviar—the combination of rich caviar with the crunchy tuna is a homerun—as well as the decadent Lobster Dynamite sautéed with mushrooms and tossed in a creamy dynamite sauce; the melt-in-your-mouth A5 Wagyu hot pot; the fresh omakase selection and more. Additionally, unique to the location, the chef has created the Crawfish Shui Mai, Kani Crab Avocado, A5 Fried Rice and Tea Smoked Duck dishes to add some new favorites that still maintain the Katsuya flavor.

Neighboring next door, guests can also end their night with inventive libations at the brand’s signature S Bar, a chic lounge serving up an array of drinks and lite bites until late in the evening.

The team is extremely excited to debut the new property to the city, and particularly these new culinary concepts. “Katsuya has seen exponential global growth. This location at SLS LUX Brickell is our second in the Miami market and joins a strong global portfolio across major cities―from Los Angeles and Dubai to Kuwait City and the Bahamas―with more in the global pipeline. Yabu Pushelberg’s elegant design creates a unique guest experience while staying true to Katsuya’s distinctive DNA,” Sam Nazarian, founder and CEO of sbe. “Sbe’s mark on Brickell’s growing gastronomy and social scene is unmatched, and we look forward to continuing to push the city’s boundaries with our innovative concepts Katsuya and S Bar.”

The overall design, cuisine, service and vibe of the brand-new restaurant will certainly prove a hit for Miamians who love the Katsuya food but crave it away from South Beach. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it serves as the perfect power-lunch destination or lively date-night spot. Katsuya and S Bar are located at SLS LUX Hotel and Residences, 8 SE St., Miami. Katsuya is open daily from 7 a.m.-11:30 a.m. for breakfast, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. for lunch and 6:00 p.m.-1:30 a.m. for dinner.
