Boston Bruins Tuukka Rask Dishes On His Bartending Skills For Seaport Strong And Why Boston Is Such A Great Sports City

Want to score a ticket to Boston‘s hottest spring event? Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House in the Seaport District is preparing to host some of Boston’s best sports players as they serve as celebrity bartenders for the night at the Greg Hill Foundation’s Seaport Strong.

The swanky evening, which will benefit survivors of the Boston Marathon bombings, will be even more special as the foundation has reached its $2 million giving landmark. To celebrate, there will be silent auctions featuring signed sports memorabilia and VIP cocktails served by celebrity bartenders such as the New England Patriots McCourty twins and Patrick Chung as well as Boston Bruins Tuukka Rask.

We caught up recently with Boston Bruins’ goalie Tuukka Rask to talk about his bartending skills and why Boston is such a great sports city.

Why did you decide to get involved with Seaport Strong again this year?

It wasn’t much of a decision really. I was first there four or five years ago when the Hillman (Greg Hill) told me about the event. After the Boston Marathon tragedy, the city has been coming together with charity events. When he told me about it, I obviously wanted to jump on board. It’s always a great event and for a good cause.

Do you have any experience as a bartender?

Not a whole lot. Most of the time, I’m on the other side of the bar (laughs).

What are some of your favorite cocktails to mix up?

I drink beer and not a lot of mixed drinks, but I am sure I can handle any requests that come my way.

Do you have a signature cocktail you are going to be preparing that night?

No, but that’s a good idea. Maybe I will have to make one up.

Is there going to be some competitiveness between you and the McCourty brothers?

Well, yeah. Athletes are always competitive guys, but we’re all friends, so it’s going to be a lot of fun. I am sure we will all be interested in seeing who does it best though.

How special is the connection for you between Boston sports players and their fans?

It’s awesome. Boston is a great sports town. All of the teams are very successful here, and we certainly appreciate each fan base. The Celtics made a run for it and the city was all behind them. I am proud and happy as an athlete to be a part of it all.
