If you’ve always dreamed of owning a house in Napa, but don’t want to go through the hassle of homeownership, allow me to introduce you to your new home away from home, The Ink House. The four bedroom property is a new bed and breakfast from Castellucci Napa Valley, a luxury lifestyle brand launched by siblings Maria and Marco Castellucci. The duo are the daughter and son of Antonio Castellucci, a San Francisco property investor who made a name for himself in the Valley. The family released its first bottle of wine in 2012 and currently makes three varietals—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chenin Blanc. Guests at the inn are greeted with a splash of one of the wines upon entry.

The Castelluccis are very hands on in the best kind of way—the afternoon of my arrival, Marco personally greeted me. However, the day-to-day happenings are managed by a friendly and informed concierge who can do everything from cook breakfast to book restaurant reservations. As your luggage is whisked to your bedroom, it’s hard not to feel at home the instant you arrive.

The inn, which is minutes south of St. Helena on Highway 29, opened earlier this year. Beloved valley architect Howard Backen of Backen, Gillam & Kroeger helped the family restore the property. Interior designer Sarahliz Lawson put together the posh, inviting, and stylish furnishings. Part Italian villa, part Napa farmhouse, the overall feel of the house is relaxed, open, and cool.

The two-story property, that also has a third floor observatory with stunning 360-degree views of the valley’s vineyard-filled floor, dates back to 1885. It was built by Napa pioneer, Theron H. Ink, hence the name. Each of the four guest rooms is distinct and features a California King or Eastern King bed, private bathroom, and contemporary decor. The Helios Room, which is on the first floor directly next door to the kitchen, has tall ceilings, and a private door that leads to a lavender garden and patio.
The Elvis Room has a bed dressed in blue suede and posters from the film Wild in the Country hang on the walls. “The King” stayed at the Inn while filming the movie in 1960. That’s one of the things that makes the house so special—you can feel the history in the bones of the building and yet it has all of the modern-day necessities that make a vacation decadent.

Once you book a stay at The Ink House, you’ll be asked to fill out a questionnaire. Want to try local cheese and charcuterie? Mention it in the survey and the fridge will be stocked with a selection of delicious snacks. Not sure which wineries make the best Cabernet Franc? Let the concierge know that’s what you want to taste and he’ll plan your vineyard itinerary. Want to try Model Bakery’s famous English muffins that Oprah loves so much? Simply say the word and the muffins will magically appear.

It’s upscale hospitality at its finest. Other amenities include bocce ball courts, open access to all the food and drink in the kitchen, and transportation (by Bentley no less) to and from valley destinations. The Ink House may technically be a bed and breakfast, but it’s also an exclusive hospitality experience. A stay at the inn, whether it’s your first time or 25th, will make every trip to Napa feel like your going home.
