New York Fashion Week Day 5: NYFW Fall 2018 Collections

Nicky Zimmermann has created the ultimate market for femininity and romanticism. This season she took a cue from the Victorian age and added an equestrian-like flair by pairing classics like soft-floral print ruffled dresses over slouched riding boots. She effortlessly cinched together this look by incorporating a rich cognac-colored leather lace up corset. Lace crochet blouses with floral print suiting in muted neutral tones also stood out on the runway this year as striking that perfect balance between elegant and whimsical.

Continuing with the equestrian vibes for Fall 2018, Derek Lam accented his gift of artfully capturing the allure of American sportswear. For this collection, Lam took on both the traditional and wild side of horse culture with a mix of classic Americana meets effortless chic.

We were shown both classic and traditional looks like a hounds tooth pant-suit to a more modern feminine look of a quilted silk vest accented with leather detailing over a flowing and bustled-like full length skirt. Lam kicked up the impact even more by incorporating knee-high western riding boots and oversized feeder bags yet still managed to keep the overall tone for his fall line modern and chic.

This show marked Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia’s third runway show as the designing team of Oscar de la Renta and it was a confident step forward indeed. This season you see call-backs to the heritage-line classics but with fresh and fun updates that also appeal to the brand’s younger fans.

You also see familiar fit-and-flare silhouettes with updated accents like lace in bold colors and floral prints that are paired with pieces crafted with rich fabrics such as velvet and silk. But of course, Kim and Garcia saved the best for last with classic evening wear – with gowns flowing in reams and reams of rich black velvet with luxe crimson velvet ornamentation in all different shapes and silhouettes from floor length to tea-length. The show was most definitely a feast for the eyes.
