New York Fashion Week Day 3: NYFW Fall 2018 Collections

In just a few short years since Han Chong launched his line, Self-Portrait has become a must-see runway show for NYFW largely due to Chong’s commercial and red-carpet success. Self-Portrait has been known for his special occasion dresses, but this year Chong really diversified his design roster by incorporating tailored and structured overcoats atop flowy, romantic dresses in bold colors. Chong appears to have mastered the concept of contrast this season by effortlessly interweaving masculine, structured outerwear with feminine, sexy dresses; this trend will no doubt get the attention of his fans, both loyal and new alike.

Christian Siriano celebrated his 10th anniversary in fashion with his fall runway show and made a point to mark this significant milestone with a show that will no-doubt leave a lasting impact on the fashion world. Siriano’s milestone celebratory show highlighted no less than 72 looks and he certainly did not skimp on quality.

His use of ultra-luxe fabrics and high-gloss embellishments truly exemplified high-gloss feminine glamour. He set the sexy-and-strong tone of the show with a series of bright red faux-fur trench coats that were cinched at the waist over color-matching thigh-high boots, followed by a seamless transition into a series of dramatic evening looks in varied silhouettes- all designed with a night-sky-like textile of black velvet with embedded crystals.

Christian Siriano made sure to remind us why he has become a household name. Siriano’s message throughout the show was evident – he wants to empower all women to feel sexy and glamorous by embracing diversity and inclusion, and in doing just this, Siriano is changing runway fashion.

With a new Madison Avenue flagship to anchor the brand’s footing during NYFW, Tomas Maier, Creative Director of Bottega Veneta, lovingly dedicated his fall collection to the Big Apple and took this city on a Bottega-worldwind.

Maier demonstrated his sophisticated attention to detail and workmanship by interweaving intricate illustrations of the Manhattan skyline throughout many of his designs alongside a trio of multi-colored wool dresses inspired by the grillwork found in New York City elevators. Not focused on architecture alone, Bottega Veneta also conveyed a loving ode to the bold, cool confidence of the women and men who call themselves New Yorkers.

We were shown easy-elegance feminine looks of bright-colored silk pajamas that were coolly topped with a full-length structured trench coat. The menswear showed off a bold contrast of bright-colored relaxed-fit trousers combined with the luxe detailing of an animal print bomber jacket. Tom Maier artfully captured the spirit of New York City and we can thankfully look forward to more of this cool, vibey feel in Bottega’s new Madison Avenue home.
