America has a problem. More than one, actually, but most recently with Fergie. According to critics, she butchered the national anthem during the All-Star game.

Los Angeles and the rest of America called Fergie’s rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” terrible and horrible.
Maybe the “Black Eyed Peas” singer was inspired by the late great Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday” serenade to President Kennedy.

America is many things but sultry is not one of them.

But, performing one of the country’s most important songs is not easy.
Neither is the pressure to make the song completely your own.
While America was quick to crucify Fergie, they forgot about the plenty other failed performances of the past.
