Burger fans, listen up! Beloved New York-based burger chain, Shake Shack, has announced that it is moving to the Bay Area. Representatives from the shack confirmed the news of the exciting expansion to the San Francisco Chronicle earlier today. Shake Shack’s first Northern California location will be in Palo Alto at the Stanford Shopping Center. This is set to open later this year in the fall.

The lease agreement for the second Shake Shack, in Larkspur, is still being worked out, but we’re betting that it’s located at the Marin Country Mart.  A final third eatery will be in San Francisco with a tentative opening date by 2019. Shake Shack’s CEO Randy Garutti is hoping the Marina district will be its ideal home. “Without a doubt, San Francisco has been one of, if not my favorite city to eat in,” Garutti told the Chronicle. “We have a profound respect for the city and its chefs. We were just wanting to find the right time to come here.”

With 100 US locations and 60 globally, it’s taken the burger bigwig a while to come to the Bay Area. Garutti and the company’s founder, Danny Meyer, have spent a lot of time checking out the region’s burger scene. With beloved chains like Roam, In-N-Out, and Gott’s Roadside, Shake Shack will face tough competition.
