A few years ago, research came out showing that, when it comes to our facial features, eyebrows play the most important role in determining our appearance and emotional expressions–even more so than the eyes. It’s not all that surprising then, that around the same time the popularity of microblading took off. If you haven’t heard the term before, microblading refers to a semi-permanent brow-inking procedure designed to give you arches like Cara Delevingne (or whoever your personal brow-muse might be).
Curious about the how it works? We were too, so we talked to Edith Diaz, microblading technician and founder of Beautify at AMS spa, to get the rundown on this top beauty trend.
So what is microblading, exactly, and how is it done?
Microblading is the most natural looking semi-permanent makeup treatments for the brows.
It’s done in a medspa or aesthetician’s office in a few steps.
1. First, we start with the pigment. Choosing the right brow color prior to your Microblading treatment is extremely important. Pigment colors are often mixed to obtain different tones to match the individual’s complexion.
2. Next, we create your dream brows with pencil to ensure your results are perfect, and a numbing cream is applied for 15-30 minutes.
3. Then the microblading process is started. The technique creates hairlike strokes with your custom pigment and the tip of a blade to fill in sparse or thinning brows.
How many sessions are recommended, and how long is each session?
Your first microblading session will last around two hours, and is followed by a touch up done two-to-four weeks after the first session.
How long do the results last?
Microblading results will last six months to a year.

Microblading is an ideal treatment for reconstructing, defining, covering gaps and filling current brow structure. Powders, pencils and gels can come off relatively easily so microblading not only saves you money but a whole lot of time!
How much does it cost?
We currently have a microblading special for $189 per session.
Is there anyone who is not a good candidate for the service?
We do not suggest this service for expecting women. As blood volume and hormones are at a high, pigments may not settle into the skin as well as they should.
