New York Weekend Preview: Snow, Suits, And Santacon

The holidays are almost here, and New Yorkers are bundled up and on the town taking in the holiday spirit. With Christmas just a few weeks away, the tree in Rockefeller Center lit, and the window’s along 5th avenue glowing with different designs, it’s never been better to be a New Yorker. For this weekend, here are a few of our favorite events we’re getting ready for.

The Season’s First Snow!

It’s all happening, New York weather reports are claiming that New York is about to get its first big snow of the season—that means it’s going to be peak weather for snowball fights, snowman building, igloo hangouts, and everything in between. It also means, make sure your car is in a good spot, and that you’ve taken in any plants or clothes that might be outside, because the city’s about to be blanketed in white if reports are to be believed. Get out early to the park and make a day of it!

For all those who love the Christmas season so much you just need to get out and exercise, or for those looking to get workouts in early before devouring all the Christmas cookies at the office holiday party, head to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park at 10:00am on Sunday for the Santa Suit 5k. Run through the streets decked out in your best father Christmas costume to really get into the holiday spirit. Register for the race here.

If you love the idea of a Santa Suit 5k, but wish it involved more drinking, then you probably already know all about SantaCon. Once a year, the city becomes overrun with crazed Christmas fans flocking in droves to bars, restaurants, and just the streets in general, to dive head first into the holiday season. It’s a raucous, jovial, amazing day to be in New York—its also about the closest thing we have n New York culture to the running of the bulls in Pamplona. Midtown bars will also offer deals to those dressed as old St. Nick. For a list of participating venues, check their website.
